I keep buying stuff that I can't physically finish the process or dont understand how it works or lots of parts to start projects I can't finish now. I'm going to have to marry a good guy and he can figure it out or pray ill be OK if something bad happens. I keep watching incase there's something you guys do that I can afford or can do on my own. I share your videos in several groups too. I'm loyal, but gotta be careful now. Love you guys... your adopted daughter.

    Hello, great video! You touched on low levels of carbon monoxide being absorbed into the body. One thing you should expand on is the difference between regular carbon monoxide detectors and ones designed to detect low levels of carbon monoxide. These low levels can still be toxic over time and unless you have a detector specifically calibrated to register these low levels you would never know you’re in danger.

    Smoke detectors save lives! If you are sleeping and a fire breaks out somewhere in your house (it could also be in another apartment in an apartment building) you will not smell the smoke and may die from carbon monoxide poisoning. Fire alarms warn in time so that you can take action, even if only to escape in time. Install them in every single room, including behind the apartment door. They are worth every penny.

      Every shelf is set on 2x4s that are secured directly to the studs in the wall. The very corner is a bit rough but I can reach it just fine with the help of a little paint stick :) Great question!

    Question … what about vacuum sealing smaller, usable portions in a food-saver storage bags with an oxygen absorber (such as 2 lbs per bag), then storing multiple sealed bags in food safe buckets - what kind of shelf life would that give me? Thank you.

    • @TheProvidentPrepper
      @TheProvidentPrepper 19 часов назад

      Storage temperature is a determining factor (heat is really bad for dry goods). Protect from light and moisture. However all things equal ... it would mean the slow introduction of oxygen over time. The commercial grade would be better than the thinner plastic. Also, putting them in a secondary container like an airtight plastic bucket would also help. I would estimate ... cool, dry, dark ... commercial grade vacuum seal bags would give you 15 years where Mylar is more like 20-25. If you are rotating (like we should be) that is more than enough :) ... just my thoughts.

    • @angelacastagna3824
      @angelacastagna3824 18 часов назад

      @@TheProvidentPrepper Thank you so much for your reply. Yes, we would be rotating out over time, so that would be more than enough storage time for us….and especially since we are in our early 60’s (which, by the way, I have no idea how THAT happened!!!) Thank you again.

    I love your channel, but going to the "expert" who is trying to sell you his product is a terrible idea. It's like asking a pharmaceutical company, "Is this drug / vaccine safe for me?" Bottom line is that all plastic (including the mylar lining) leaches chemicals over time, and heat drastically increases the rate at which plastic leaches. I will never pour boiling water into mylar bags if at all possible.

    I don't understand the complaints about the oil change in the vacuum pump! I have to put gasoline in my car if i want to go somewhere or anywhere. If I have an electric car, I would have to make sure it's fully charged. Likewise with all other convinces, the dishwasher needs to be emptied, the washer and dryer needs to be emptied. 30 minutes to maintain your freeze dryer isn't a big deal. However you could hire someone to change the freeze dryer oil just like you do for your car. AND a freeze dryer is expensive but how much did your freezer, refrigerator dishwasher, washer and dryer cost. And your mode of transportation. There are many others, just pick one to do without.. The only one I hope i never have to give up is the clothes washing machine. I have been without everything i have mentioned.

    Baking Soda can put out most fires. When I was in elementary school, we decorated a coffee can which included the words "In Case of Fire" on it and filled it with baking soda. We kept the can on the kitchen counter opposite the stove. An ABC extinguisher is around $70.

      No ... there is a difference between sane people trying to be part of the solution and those who are just using it as an excuse to be evil. This is not fearmongering. This is wisdom. Having a fire extinguisher and first aid kit doesn't make you a fearmonger. It shows that you are intelligent and ready to handle a crisis. You are in a position to bless the lives of others.

    Saw an air force comment here. As an Ex navy, current DOD who uses vacuumed mylar for explosives almost weekly, here is what you do. Use a hair iron to seal 90% of the bag, leave just enough for your vacuum cleaner hose to fit. Use a piece of cloth to cover it, we use cheese cloth, and stick that sucker in there. Start it up and shake the bag around to ensure you get that sucker sucked. When it's as collapsed as it's gonna get use the iron to seal as close to the hose as you can and quickly pull the vacuum out while sealing the hole. If done correctly, you have a vacuum/heat seal bag. If you suck at that. you can just pull the vacuum back as much as possible while still being in the bag and just use the iron to seal a couple inches deeper, in front of the vacuum, instead.

    We had to use our extinguisher the other day. Thank goodness I had it in the pantry. It was brand new...cut the plastic bit off, pulled the pin, squeezed it through the back door to my husband then he put out the fire. We put a new butane canister on an old blow torch, the torch was faulty and literally turned into a ball of flames when it was turned on. It got dropped by our back door and was still on major fire. We were worried it was going to blow up if it got too hot. I shut the dog in the other room, grabbed the extinguisher and it played out as I said above, all in about 90 seconds. 😅 Very thankful it did not turn out worse than just us being freaked out for an hour or so afterwards. 🙏🏻😊 Our extinguisher says it is empty now though, I would have thought you could use it more than once. 🙃

    One thing that I haven't seen or heard mentioned are other small disasters. Making copies of pictures and other family memories like recipes and perhaps family stories. Digital copies won't help in a grid down situation, but if there is a fire, flood or some other incident that happens to a friend or family member being able to reproduce copies of say great grandparents wedding pictures, or Aunt Gert's secret recipe for potato salad may at least help with some of the loss. It won't replace a house, but sometimes the little things can make a big difference.
